About the Implementing Analytics Academy
The Implementing Analytics Academy is a new concept of a “college” style summit with a coordinated syllabus to enable companies to develop a culture of data driven decisions through the use of analytics. The program methodically takes participants through structured sessions of lecture and hands-on workshop to deliver a step-by-step approach to implementing analytics.
The first half of the Academy focuses on the four components of implementing analytics of Mindset, People, Processes and Systems. Uniquely, the Systems workshop enables you to bring your own data and, in a confidential and non-competitive environment, see the actual results and ROI from analytics systems.
The final day focuses about storytelling and brings together all four components of building the culture of data driven decisions to prepare a budget, roadmap, plan, and story to take back to your company to gain approval to implement analytics, as well as, the on-going ability to convert analytics into compelling stories that drive decisions.

Analytics is a culture – follow the Roadmap to success
In this crucial part of the Academy, we will lay out the roadmap and to implement an analytics culture for data driven decisions. The 4 main components (Mindset, People, Processes and Systems) must be in alignment for analytics implementation to be successful.
Mindset regards a person’s consideration toward affecting decisions.
The 4 Mindsets are Reporter, Commentator, Advisor and Strategist. An example of a Reporter is the production of quarterly financials while the Commentator is focused on converting data
into information via reports to measure and explain variance to plan. All 4 Mindsets are needed in an organization. However, Mindsets must align to affect a culture of data driven decisions. This part of the Academy discusses the importance and elements of Mindset.
This area of the Academy is connected to Mindset enabling attendees to identify characteristics of their current or potential team members for each role of Reporter, Commentator, Advisor and Strategist. This also covers the need for alignment in building the culture for data driven decisions. There will also be a workshop which takes participants through the process of assessing people, identifying gaps, preparing roles/responsibilities and assuring alignment.
Often the Achilles heel of building “culture”, this component of the Academy helps attendees identify the written processes needed to institutionalize the culture of data driven decisions including data governance, training, and authorities for making decisions and advancing analytics. There is also a hands-on workshop which will help attendees build the framework for effective written procedures and processes for training, data
governance, and authorities.
The final component of implementing analytics, Systems, explores the various technologies as it applies to each type of Mindset. There is no one “uber” system and the strengths and weaknesses of the systems are explored so that users can bring the right system to the right people. The corresponding workshop allows participants to bring their own data to load into Visualization and Analytical tools to experience the insights contained in their data and provide a glimpse of the scope of ROI and contributions to data driven decisions.
The culmination of an analytics culture is the ability to tell a story that the business can digest toward making decisions. Statistical numbers and complexity too often are not intelligible. In successive workshops we discuss how to use visualization and simplification of the complex to deliver understanding of the analytics and to deliver the analytics that matter.
This final workshop puts the pieces together of developing a plan, budget, and ROI for implementing analytics and the story for a culture of data driven decisions. This crucial workshop helps attendees build the business case for analytics in their organization. Every attendee will walk away with a specific plan of action.
