The 4 Components to Implementing Analytics

View Webcast

Today, the finance function, among others, is eager to advance from trusted score-keeper to a strategic partner. To ensure finance can provide information to affect data driven decisions from quantitative analysis and predictions they must first develop a culture for data driven decision making. Attend this webcast to establish a solid foundation in the 4 components of culture in implementing analytics in your organization: Mindset, Systems, People, and Process.

Avoiding Dashboard Dangers

View Webcast

The webcast looks at the current ways Dashboards are used and how these can lead to false positive and false negative indicators. We then discuss how best to use Dashboards to avoid these dangers and gain insights.

Influencing Decisions Using Non-Financial Data

View Webcast

Finance often overlooks the value that can be gained from using non-financial data to influence decisions.  For example, data, such as, customer satisfaction, unemployment, salesman tenure, and so on, can be correlated to explain changes in demand, reveal lead indicators of sales, or why modifications to compensation are needed.  This brief webcast looks at examples of the insights from analytics on non-financial data to help business proactively adjust behavior to increase business performance.

Using Analytics to Talk with Sales

View Webcast

Finance has a critical role to assure revenue retention and revenue growth.  To do such, more sales needs to flow into the top of the “revenue bucket” (in the form of new bookings) and less revenue to leak out the bottom of the bucket (in the form of customer churn).  This brief webcast will give examples of how you can incorporate analytics to gain insights that assure the flow of sales and stem the leakage of revenue.

Revolutionize Data Analysis with Systemization

View Webcast

All analysis starts with a hypothesis of something we are trying to find. But how can I prove my hypothesis? What data do I need? What data do I have? Is my data adequate? This brief webcasts covers the technique of “systematic thinking” to answer these questions.

Next Generation Finance

View Webcast

90% of Finance groups say they want to “transform” from the trusted-score keeper to strategic partner to have a “seat at the table.” This brief webcast discusses what that means to evolve from hind-sight driven spreadsheet reporting to a forward-looking predictive powerhouse.

    Module 3 Summary

    Insights come from an ability to think about how to approach data analysis. There are many sources of data. ERP, CRM, BI, EPM, POS to name a few. However, Finance, Ops, Sales, Marketing, Business Analytics, and support groups like Strategy, IT and HR that need to analyze data are challenged to exploit these data sources to uncover insights for better decisions because of two predominate reasons;

    1. They are relegated to spreadsheets that limit the size of the data and analytics that can be productively performed.
    2. Its personnel lacks the skills to systematically approach the analysis of data.

This course is focused on the latter weakness to enable students to think “systematically” to exploit data for high value insights, regardless of the tool being used. Systematic thinking also extends to assembling/cleaning data that’s needed to make meaningful analyses. This course will further provide basics in AI and ML, tools and techniques for unbiased forecasting and budgeting throughout finance and operations.

    Module 2 Summary

This module takes the students on an analytics journey on how to transform data to insights and telling the “compelling” story that business stakeholders use for data driven decisions. The module will also cover the importance of benchmarking and describe how to “sell” the analytics culture to stakeholders.

You can only go so far with Excel, after which other tools for deeper insights are required. We explore tools and techniques for deeper insight, better forecasting, as well as, practical examples of advanced analytics for data driven decisions.

If you cannot tell a “story” that leads to a decision it is worth nothing. Too often, too much time is spent to make “pretty” dashboards that add no value to decisions, or produce statistical reports that confuse executives. We will explore a framework to tell a “story” that gives insights without overwhelming with details or complexity.

When advancing hard and soft skills like insightful analytics and storytelling it is crucial to understand ‘where you are’ today and ‘where you aspire to be’ in the future. As such, this session provides each student with a very unique hard and soft skill assessment and benchmark for its capabilities as an Analytics Business Partner.

When starting the analytics journey you need to gain buy-in from your leader or business stakeholders. We will end the module by providing the framework for how to “sell” the ‘Culture of Analytics for Data Driven Decisions’.

    Module 1 Summary

Many executives and managers have a vision for analytics, however, the implementation often eludes or delays due to a lack of details or the ability to express to others the cross-connections and value propositions.

The Academy will crystallize and articulate the Roadmap to implement an analytics culture for data driven decisions to give clarity and voice to the four main components of Mindset, People, Process, and Systems. These components must align for a successful analytics implementation.

You’ll learn to know and avoid the common mistakes and misconceptions to establish an analytics culture; understand the applications of advanced analytics, predictions, forecasting, AI, and ML; see the linkage of data and decisions; measure yourself against best practices and the ROI of successful analytics; and come to realize that analytics is not hard, long, or expensive… It is simply disciplined.
