Managers have people working for them and have a position of authority. The main focus of a manager is to meet organizational goals and objectives and generally does not take much else into consideration.
Managers are held accountable for their actions as well as the actions of those working for them. With the title comes the authority and the privilege to promote, hire, fire, discipline, or reward employees based on their performance and behavior.
The main difference between leaders and managers is that leaders do not necessarily hold or occupy a management position. In other words, it is not necessary that a leader be an authoritative figure in a company. Leaders can be regular employees.
Different from managers, leaders are followed because of their beliefs and personality. Leaders have personal stakes in tasks and projects and exude passion for what they do. Leaders also take a great deal of interest in the success of their followers, empowering them to reach their goals.
